Cat's Cradle Book Review
First published 1963 Vonnegut is not for everyone and I suspect many would find him far too cynical to truly enjoy.
Cat's cradle book review. In the end Cats Cradle is a highly imaginative work of satire. I think you nailed the insights of the book and gave a great review. Bokonon finished writing the Books of Bokonon all the while commenting on human stupidity.
Vonneguts fourth novel is a masterclass in the use of satire and sarcasm to lampoon the most serious of disciplines in such a way as to show their ridiculousness. His world view has always seemed to me to be without illusion though sometimes lacking in joy or hope. In Cats Cradle I think Vonneguts own perceived purpose as a writer bleed through to the pages more than in his other novels.
I have the exact copy that I read when I was a high schooler complete with my underlined text. Mar 04 2012 Julia Saboya rated it it was amazing. It requires a lot of understanding of symbolism and good connection skills.
Cats Cradle is a short book unhindered by lengthy exposition or world building there is no wasted space at all and the rich intelligent dialogue combined with brief chapters means that many people could read this in one or two sittings. Its a classic and Im a bit embarrassed that I had never read it until now. It is somewhat amusing in a wry way and quite enjoyable.
Cats Cradle starts out with our narrator Jonah working on a book about Felix Hoenikker a fictional scientist and equally the fictional father of the atomic bomb. Looking for a book full of truth that is actually full of shameless lies. I am used to weird books as a whole.
Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut re-read. God playfully sends out His creation to follow endless rabbit trails. 4 of 5 stars Overall this book is categorized as a comedy.
